I Roxette raggiungono la piena notorietà tra la fine degli anni '80 e gli inizi degli anni '90 riuscendo come primo gruppo musicale svedese a conquistare con il pop europeo il mercato statunitense. Sono i singoli Listen to Your Heart e The Look (dall'album del 1988 Look Sharp!) che portano i Roxette al successo europeo ed internazionale: negli Stati Uniti sono entrambe numero uno nella classifica di Billboard insieme a It Must Have Been Love, riarrangiata nel 1990 per la colonna sonora del film Pretty Woman. Un altro successo è l'album del 1991 Joyride con il tour mondiale "Join the Joyride 1991-92".
Al 2006 contano oltre settanta milioni di copie vendute in tutto il mondo.
